Year 1 - Miss Bailey 2024 - 2025
Miss Bailey
Welcome to Year 1
In Year 1 you will find me (Miss Bailey), our wonderful teaching assistants- Mrs Smith (Mon-Wed), Mrs Beard (Thur-Fri) and Miss Williamson 1:1 (Tue-Fri), our class Guinea pigs- Dandelion and Buttercup, our class Fish and 30 hard working children.
Transition from Reception to Year 1
Our aim is to ensure that the children experience a smooth transition from the Foundation Stage to Key Stage One. The Year 1 curriculum builds upon and extends the experiences the children have had in Reception. Learning through play will continue to be an important part of the school day. The children will gradually be eased into more formal learning as the year goes on so that they remain motivated, enthused and eager learners. We have a welcoming, cosy reading area as well enhanced provision trays to practically reinforce new learning each week.
Learning and Enhanced Provision in Year 1
In Years 1-6 we follow the National Curriculum and have our own year group units that will inspire our learning across the curriculum. These units include: Toys- changes in living memory, People who have changed the world, The greatest travellers and Animals including humans. To find out more, please see our class success criterion. Our units of learning are designed and implemented to promote a love of learning, curiosity and wonder.
To enhance our exciting Havannah curriculum, we will have provision (play based) activities to further challenge, consolidate learning and engage the children. As mentioned above this will help to ease the transition from the EYFS to Key stage 1. In addition, the children will become more independent during their time in Year 1. We will learn how to be a good friend and citizen, developing our resilience and determination.
Another way we inspire the children and contextualise their learning is by going on trips to gain first hand experiences and learn from specialists.
"Reading is dreaming with your eyes open" ~ unknown.
"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you'll go" ~ Dr Seuss.
Please ensure that your child comes to school everyday with a drink, snack, bag and the appropriate school uniform for weather conditions.
